Statement
I am an intuitive, lyrical abstract painter drawn to the expressive potential of colour, texture, and form. My practice is rooted in a deep emotional connection to the natural world, memory, and identity. Working with acrylics, inks, spray paint, and texture paste, I build layered, tactile surfaces that evolve through instinctive gestures and mark-making.
At the heart of my process is the act of layering and revealing. I build up surfaces using vibrant, organic forms, then partially paint over or obscure them, allowing shapes and colours to emerge and dissolve in unexpected ways. In some works, layers are carefully sanded to uncover hidden forms beneath; in others, I paint away sections to create depth and contrast, inviting a sense of discovery.
This intuitive process mirrors the complexity of memory and identity, where meaning is often found beneath the surface.Freedom is central to my practice. I approach each painting as a space for exploration, where emotion, energy, and instinct guide the process rather than predetermined outcomes. I allow the work to unfold organically, responding to each mark, layer, and gesture in the moment. This openness enables a deeper emotional connection with the materials and the imagery that emerges. I aim to create paintings that resonate on a sensory level, where texture, colour, and form invite viewers to pause, reflect, and feel something unexpected.
In studio
“Growing up in South Africa, I was captivated by the wild interplay of nature’s chaos, peace, and beauty. These moments of quiet reflection became the wellspring of my joy, imagination, and wonder. In them,
I discovered a language beyond words. Through my art, I strive to express that connection, inviting
others to share in the same sense of serenity and awe that continues to inspire me.”
