Transformation draws inspiration from the Colour Field painters and the Abstract Expressionist movement, where large expanses of colour evoke emotion beyond representation. Using deep midnight blues and rich greens, I interpreted the meeting of South Africa’s landscapes and seascapes - vast, open, and ever-changing. Thick layers of acrylic paint were applied over a textured surface built up over time, creating depth and movement. Bold, sweeping gestures with large brushes and palette knives enhance the raw energy of the composition, allowing the colours to resonate with a quiet intensity. The result is a painting that feels both expansive and immersive, capturing a moment of transition - between land and sea, light and shadow, stillness and motion.
